What comes with a hand-wash station rental?

A hand-wash station rental includes a PolyJohn Bravo stand with 2 sinks, 2 foot pumps, soap, and paper towels. The Bravo holds 22 gallons of fresh water and 24 gallons of gray water. PolyJohn rates one fill at nearly 350 hand washes, so one station covers most backyard parties.

The Bravo is a freestanding sink stand. Guests press a foot pump, so nobody touches a faucet. Two people can wash at the same time, one on each side.

The Bravo is only 26.5 inches wide. That means a station fits through a normal 36-inch side gate, even when a toilet cannot.

How many hand-wash stations does an event need?

Plan 1 two-sink hand-wash station for every 4 toilets when food is served. A 150-guest wedding with 5 toilets needs 1 station. A 400-guest all-day festival with 17 toilets needs about 4 stations. Put one station beside the toilets and, for big crowds, another near the food line.

We round toilets ÷ 4 to the nearest whole station, with a minimum of 1. With no food, a station is optional but still welcome. Use our porta potty count calculator to size toilets first.

Where to put the station

Set the Bravo on flat, firm ground a few steps from the toilet doors. Gray water stays inside the tank, so there is no runoff on your lawn.

Do food events in Ada and Canyon counties need hand washing?

Food booths at temporary events answer to the local health district, not to us. Central District Health covers Ada, Boise, Elmore, and Valley counties. Southwest District Health covers Canyon, Gem, Payette, Owyhee, and Washington counties. Ask your district what each of your 1 or more food booths needs before you order.

Public events in Boise follow one more rule. A City of Boise special event permit is needed for events on public property with more than 1,000 people. The site plan must show where portable toilets and hand-washing stations go.

  • Apply with the city at least 60 days before the event.
  • Mark each station on the site map next to the toilets.
  • Keep a copy of your rental quote for the permit file.

For park events, Boise Parks and Recreation asks how many regular and accessible toilets you will bring. Our event porta potty rental page covers park drop-offs.

Do construction sites need a hand-wash station?

OSHA rule 29 CFR 1926.51(f) says washing facilities must be available at construction workplaces. A hand-wash station gives a crew water, soap, and towels in one spot. A monthly Bravo rental costs $140 per 28 days and includes 1 refill and cleaning visit each week.

Mobile crews that can drive to nearby washing facilities may be exempt. Most home builds and remodels set a station next to the toilet anyway. Workers wash up before lunch without leaving the site.

  • Weekly service refills fresh water and empties gray water.
  • Soap and paper towels are restocked on every visit.
  • Crews over 10 people can add a second weekly visit.

Pair a station with a construction porta potty rental so both units get serviced on the same truck stop.

Separate station or a deluxe unit with a sink?

A deluxe flushing unit has a sink inside and costs $295 per event. A standard toilet plus a separate Bravo station costs $300 for the first pair. The separate station lets 2 guests wash while another uses the toilet. Lines move faster at busy events.

Can a hand-wash station work in a Boise winter?

A Bravo station holds plain fresh water, so the water can freeze below 32°F. Boise averages a January low of 25.5°F. From November to March, ask about a hand sanitizer stand or a heated option. Toilet tanks get antifreeze at no charge, but sink water does not.

Fall and spring mornings can dip below freezing too. Place the station on the sunny side of a building and out of the wind. Read more in our guide to winter porta potty rental in Idaho.

Real questions, straight answers

Questions renters ask about this

When you say standard, that doesn't have any water or anything to wash your hands, correct?

That's right. A standard porta potty has a toilet, a urinal, and toilet paper, but no sink or water. Add a two-sink hand-wash station for $125 per event. Or choose a deluxe flushing unit with a built-in sink for $295.

Do you guys do hand-washing stations, or does it come with a hand-washing thing inside?

We offer both. The PolyJohn Bravo is a freestanding station with two sinks that sits outside the toilets. The deluxe flushing unit has a small sink inside the cabin. Most groups over 50 people do better with the separate station.

How much would it be for the hand-wash station too?

A hand-wash station adds $125 per event or $140 per 28-day cycle, before tax. Event delivery and pickup are included in Zone 1, within 25 miles of Boise. The station comes filled, with soap and paper towels ready.

Can I rent just a hand-wash station? The park already has bathrooms.

A station can be rented on its own for $125 per event. This works well for food booths, festivals, and parks with restrooms but no outdoor sinks. Check the park's rules on where delivery trucks may drive before you pick a spot.

How often is the water refilled on a monthly rental?

Monthly hand-wash stations get one service visit each week. The driver refills fresh water, empties the gray tank, restocks soap and towels, and wipes down the sinks. An extra unscheduled visit costs $65 when a crew uses more than usual.

Will the hand-wash station fit through my backyard gate?

The Bravo station is 26.5 inches wide, so it fits through a standard 36-inch gate. Our truck needs to park within about 30 feet of firm ground. The driver then rolls the station to its spot on a dolly.
