How many porta potties do I need for my event?

Divide your guest count by 50 for events up to 4 hours. Use 40 for 4 to 8 hours, and 30 for all-day events. Round up. Add 1 unit for every 4 units when alcohol is served. This planning method is our recommendation, based on industry charts, not a law.

Add 1 unit per 4 when most guests are women or kids. Make at least 1 unit in each group wheelchair-accessible. Add 1 two-station hand-wash station per 4 toilets when food is served.

Worked example: a graduation open house

For example, take a 120-guest graduation open house. It runs 6 hours with food and no alcohol. Then 120 ÷ 40 = 3 units, with 1 of the 3 as an ADA unit. Food is served, so add 1 hand-wash station.

That order costs $175 + $135 + $235 + $125 = $670 before tax. Try other counts on the porta potty calculator page.

Which Boise events need rentals, and what changes for each?

Most events we set up fall into 7 types, and each type changes the order a little. Backyard parties need gate-friendly placement. Festivals and July 4th parties need more units and hand washing. Church events and family reunions often need an ADA unit for older guests and long hours.

Do I need a permit for porta potties at a Boise event?

A private yard, driveway, or church lot needs no permit for porta potties. A unit in an Ada County street, sidewalk, or shoulder needs an ACHD Temporary Use Permit. ACHD reviews it within 5 working days. Events in a Boise park use the Parks event application, which asks for toilet counts.

What happens from booking to pickup for an event?

A standard event rental covers about 4 days, such as a Friday drop-off and a Monday pickup. We deliver up to 1 business day before the event and pick up the next business day after. There is no daily or hourly charge, so a 3-hour party costs the same as a full weekend.

  1. Book. Pay by card. Cancel for free up to 24 hours before delivery.
  2. Send the spot. A photo of the yard or lot helps. The opening must be 48 inches or wider, and the truck must get within 30 feet.
  3. Delivery. The unit arrives cleaned and stocked. If you are away, mark the spot with a flag or chalk.
  4. Event day. Multi-day events can add a mid-event service to pump and restock.
  5. Pickup. The truck returns the next business day. Leave the gate unlocked or the path open.
  6. Need it longer? Call before pickup day, and we will move the pickup and quote the extra days.

Heat and July events

Boise has about 55 days a year at 90°F or above. The record is 111°F. Set units in shade, such as the east side of a house or under trees. Our summer heat tips cover odor and placement.

How do the event unit options compare?

Event renters in Boise pick from 5 unit types, priced from $125 to $1,195 and up. A standard unit handles most parties. A deluxe flushing unit adds a sink for $295. An ADA unit costs $235. A 2-station restroom trailer starts at $1,195 for up to 3 days.

Can I put a porta potty at a Boise State tailgate?

A porta potty can go on a private lot, driveway, or business lot near Albertsons Stadium. Get the owner's OK first. Lots run by Boise State follow the university's own rules. A tailgate of 50 people for 4 hours needs 1 standard unit.

Albertsons Stadium seats 36,387 fans. Some neighbors and businesses near campus host game-day tailgates on their own property. The unit must sit on that private ground, not in the street.

A season-long setup may cost less on a monthly plan. For example, 3 cycles at $165 plus $75 delivery is $570 before tax. Six single-game event rentals at $175 each come to $1,050.

Monthly units get weekly service, so the unit is fresh before each home game. See monthly rental terms for how billing stops.

Real questions, straight answers

Questions renters ask about this

It's only a three-hour party. Why do you pick up on Monday?

The event price covers drop-off up to 1 business day before and pickup the next business day after. There is no daily or hourly charge, so the Monday pickup costs nothing extra. It also means the truck is never in your driveway during the party.

Will two porta potties work for 150 people?

Two units fall short for 150 guests. A party of 4 hours or less needs 150 ÷ 50 = 3 units. A party of 4 to 8 hours needs 4. Add 1 more if alcohol is served.

When you say standard, that doesn't have any water to wash your hands, correct?

A standard unit has a toilet and a urinal, with no sink. Add a two-sink PolyJohn Bravo hand-wash station for $125 per event. A deluxe flushing unit at $295 puts a fresh-water sink inside the stall instead.

Do you have any available for the 4th of July weekend?

Holiday weekend units go out the business day before July 4th and come back the next business day after. Reserve as early as you can for the holiday. Plan shade too, since Boise's July highs average 92.7°F.

We have about 50 people coming and I don't want people going in and out of my house. What do you suggest?

One standard unit covers 50 guests for up to 4 hours. A party of 4 to 8 hours needs 2 units. Place the units near the patio so guests never need the house.

Is that the total, or are there add-ons?

The starting price includes delivery and pickup in Zone 1, plus a cleaned and stocked unit. Add 6% Idaho sales tax. Zone 2 adds $45 and Zone 3 adds $85. Same-day rush is $95. You pay no deposit and no card fee.

How do we know the truck can get to that part of the yard?

Send a photo of the spot and the path to it. Our truck needs to park within about 30 feet, on firm ground. The opening must be 48 inches or wider, so most 36-inch side gates are too narrow.
